In Chinese culture, autumn is the most romantic time of the year when we are reminded to take a pause... to appreciate the mid-autumn full moon... and enjoy countless poems praising its beauty.

In our evergreen, hot and humid climate, the appearance and sale of mooncakes can be our only clue that autumn has arrived! But I remember strolling through a historic park in Nanjing one autumn day, trying to locate the source of an alluring sweet scent — that was the start of my love affair with the osmanthus (桂花). Let its pretty yellow petals, and magical images of the moon and its mythical resident rabbit lead us into the beauty of this season.
