Out of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs, the dragon is the only mythical creature that doesnāt exist in our realm, and a motif historically reserved for use only by the Imperial family. So, it's hard to find designs that are modern and pleasing to our customers. It was sheer serendipity that we found an Indonesian batik workshop to hand-draw a fantastical landscape bringing all the 12 zodiac animals into the same space.
Itās been a roller-coaster ride getting this collection ready... with cross-border travels only recently easing for trips to our tailor and workshop in China, and language barriers and work culture differences in Indonesia. But all is well, and we'd like to present this collection to you to herald the arrival of a magical new year ššš§§
Itās really a cultural rojak: with traditional Chinese elements and fabrics produced by Chinese... Indonesian interpretations of Chinese motifs... and Japanese-produced fabrics with CNY symbols that we can relate to too.
